Numbers – Bible Overview

Holy BibleThe book of Numbers was written by Moses at approximately the same time as Leviticus-sometime between 1450 B.C. and 1410 B.C. Numbers takes its name from the census of the Israelites described in the first four chapters. The census, however, is not the focal point of the book. The Israelites have left Egypt and now face an uncertain future as they journey toward the Promised Land of Canaan. They face hardships in the deserts of Sinai, their faltering faith, and a host of enemies. Their only hope in obtaining the land of Canaan rests in their faith in God.

I. The Israelites in the Sinai, 1:1-4:49
II. More laws of God for the people, 5:1-10:10
III. Toward the plains of Israel, 10:11-33:49
IV. Entering the land of Canaan, 33:50-36:13
