Leviticus was written by Moses between 1450 B.C. and 1410 B.C. The book of Leviticus takes its name from one of the twelve tribes of Israel, the Levites, from whose ranks came the priests that served in the tabernacle. Leviticus gives the details of the sacrificial system established by God, the various offerings and their significance, and the duties of the priests. Leviticus also contains laws dealing with daily activities of the people including cleanliness, sexual morality, disease control, and criminal activities.
